This Independence Day started off quite dreary and rainy for us here in Abingdon. We've been planning for quite some time to attend our first neighborhood block party today, so I was concerned that we might be rained out. Fortunately, it cleared up and actually got sunny just in time. It was nice to get out and meet a few of our neighbors that we hadn't met previously. However, we spent most of our time talking to our neighbor, Maggie, whom we already talk to quite regularly.
There was plenty of food, but not as many people as I had hoped. If we do it again next year, I think I will suggest louder, livelier music and some sort of games or icebreakers, so more people get to meet and mingle. Plus I hope more of our neighbors will participate.
The block party ended early (at least it did for Kaylin, Colin & me) when it started to pour down rain as we made a mad dash back to our house.

Here's a photo I took of our house, while I was waiting outside with Kaylin in her stroller for Colin to come out with our mac & cheese that we took to the party to share.
Here's Colin & Kaylin at the block party. Don't they look patriotic in their red, white, and blue?
